Many of our readers will learn, with regret, of the death of James Chapman, second clerk in the Darlington manager's office of the North Eastern Railway, who resided at Heighington. Mr Chapman was for many years hon.sec. of the Heighington Flower Show, which owed a great deal of its success to his management. He was of a genial temperament and was much esteemed by a large circle of aquaintances. His death occured somewhat sudenly on
friday night, of quinsey."

Durham Records Office. It shows James a clerk of full age and Jane
aged 19. His father Robert is described as a domestic servant and her
father Robert is a Parish Clerk. Entry 238 on page 119.
