2. Thomas2 Blackett (William1) was born in South Shields, Co. Durham 5 July 1807. Birthplace and year of birth taken from 1861 Census. Information for exact date from Mormons, Batch No. P000671, Source Call No.0091131, Printout Call No.6904887. Thomas died June 1866 in South Shields district, at 58 years of age. Free BMD have an entry Ref. Volume 10A Page 328 showing his death aged 59.

He married Jane Tully in Gateshead, Co. Durham, 29 December 1833. Information from Bruce Peckett.

Jane was born in South Shields, Co. Durham about 1807. Jane was the daughter of George Tully and Mary Wright. Jane died December 1887 in South Shields district, at 80 years of age. Free BMD has an entry for a Jane Blackett aged 78 Ref 10a 410. This would give a birth year circa 1809 which ties in with her being aged 43 in the 1851 Census, although subsequent census ages are incorrect. She was only 65 in the 1881 Census for example.

She was listed as head of household in the 1841 census in Westoe, South Shields, Co. Durham. HO 107 shows Jane aged 30 (should be 34 but ages were rounded to the nearest 5 years), Mary 5 and Jane 2. Husband not shown but may be at sea.

She was listed as head of household in the 1851 census in Adelaide Street, South Shields, Co. Durham. HO 107 Piece 2399 Folio 518 Page 44 shows mother Jane Blackett aged 43 a sailor's wife, daughter Mary 15, daughter Jane 12, daughter Annie 9, daughter Ellen 7, son William 4 and son Thomas 1, all born at South Shields, and lodger James Tully 52 master mariner, probably Jane's brother. Jane's husband Thomas not shown but may be at sea.

She was listed as head of household in the 1861 census in 55 Cambridge Street, South Shields, Co. Durham. RG09 Piece 3789 Folio 17 Page 28 shows Jane a seaman's wife aged 48, Jane 20 dress maker, Annie (now Anne with additional middle name Wright) 18, Eleanor 16 and Thomas 11.

RG11 Piece 5011, Folio, 49 Page 29 shows Jane as head of household aged 65 (43 in 1851; 48 in 1861; 60 in 1871), daughter Jane dress maker aged 30 (12 in 1851; 20 in 1861; 28 in 1871) and granddaughter Mary A. Wade aged 14 (6 in 1871).

child 6 iv. Ellen (Eleanor) Blackett was born in South Shields, Co. Durham about 1843. Year and place of birth taken from 1851 Census. Ellen died 24 April 1904 in South Shields district, at 60 years of age. Exact date and place of death taken from Christopher Tully's family tree. She married James Tully in Newcastle upon Tyne district, 30 October 1871. Free BMD has an entry for both parties. Ref. Volume 10B Page 167. Christoper Tully's tree says married at St Nicholas, Newcastle on 30 October 1871.

James was born in South Shields, Co. Durham 24 March 1844. Date of birth taken from Christopher Tully's family tree.

James died October 1882 in Bay of Biscay, at 38 years of age. Information from family tree of Christopher Tully. James lost at sea in the Bay of Biscay by the foundering of SS Lord Nelson, grain laden, from Odessa bound Antwerp.
