50. Robert5 Chapman (William6) was born in Sadbergh?, Yorkshire about 1813. 1881 Census says he is aged 68, giving us 1813 as an approximate birth year. Robert died 31 December 1900 in Felixkirk, North Yorkshire, at 87 years of age. Copy certificate issued 30 October 2007. Aged 88, a retired gentleman' s servant coachman. The informant is Robert Dick, son-in-law. The Monum ental Inscription record shows his date of death, athough it says he wa s 80 rather than the correct age of 88. This may be due to the eroded state of the gravestone. His body was interred 4 January 1901 in Heighington churchyard, Co. Durham. Burial Register seen on 18 October 2007 at Durham Records Office. Entry 1284 on page 159. In the abode column it says "formerly of Heighington".

He married Mary Leadbitter in St George, Hanover Square, London, 13 June 1839. Copy certificate issued 25 October 2007. Both of full age, he is a ser vant. There is a wiggly line for her occupation which may mean 'ditto'. T he address for both of them is Maddox Street. His father is William a farmer and hers is Ralph also a farmer. Were they in London w ith their employer?

Mary was born in Mout Hill, Northumberland 1815. Mary was the daughter of Ralph Leadbitter and Jane ?. Mary died 24 February 1885 in Heighington, Co. Durham, at 69 years of age. Her body was interred 28 February 1885 in Heighington churchyard, Co. Durham. She was christened in Simonburn, Northumberland, 9 July 1815. Mormons have an entry for a Mary Leadbeater with parents Ralph and Jan e. Batch No.P004361, Source Call No.0252551, Printout Call No.6905607.

Alice was born in Yarm, Yorkshire December 1850. Alice was the daughter of Francis Morland and Elizabeth Marshall. Alice died March 1906 in Darlington district, Co. Durham, at 55 years of age. Durham, 7 June 1870. Free BMD has entries for both parties Ref. 10a 35 Darlington district June quarter 1870. Marriage Register seen on 18 October 2007 at Durham Records Office. Both parties of full age. John is a tailor and his father William a customs house officer. Fanny's father Robert is a coachman. Entry 235 on page 118. The marriage was witnessed by Isabella Sowerby, George Chapman, Emma Chapman and James Chapman.

His father Robert is described as a domestic servant and her father Robert is a Parish Clerk. Entry 238 on page 119.

Henry was born at South Shields and it is not known what relationship he had to Jane.

Mary died March 1870 in Darlington district, Co. Durham, at 10 years of age. Free BMD has an entry Ref. Volume 10A Page 27 showing Mary Ellen aged 9 . Her body was interred 29 May 1870 in Heighington churchyard, Co. Durham. Burial Register seen on 18 October 2007 at Durham Records Office. Entr y 642 on page 78. I recorded the date as 29 May 1869. It is possible th at I saw 1869 on the heading of the page but did not notice a year chan ge lower down the page.
