2. Eleanor (Ellenor)2 Hopwood (John1) was born in Bishop Auckland, Co. Durham June 1855. 1837 Online has an entry Ref Auckland 10a 106. Eleanor died 25 July 1931 in 11 John Street, Chester-le-Street, Co. Durham, at 76 years of age. Copy certificate issued 14 February 2007. Described as widow aged 76 of Thomas Richardson a Colliery Shifter. Death registered by Edward David Williams, son-in-law of the same address. Her body was interred 28 July 1931 in Chester-le-Street Cemetery. Plot G717. Headstone say she was aged 76. Also in same grave are her daughter Mary Annie Williams nee Richardson and her husband Edward David Williams. Gravestone restored 2006.

She married Thomas Richardson in Register Office, Teesdale, Co. Durham, 21 October 1871. Copy Certificate issued 19 August 1975. Entry No. 123. Both resided at Langley-dale. Thomas described as a Farm Labourer. His father described as Farmer and hers as Waggon Driver. Bride's name forename shown as Ellenor. Thomas aged 24 Ellenor 21 - but should be 16!! - see Census 6 months earlier (legal minimum age was 12 for females).

Thomas was born in Shildon, Co. Durham 7 July 1847. I have a copy certificate for a Thomas Richardson born on 7 July 1847 at Old Shildon (1881 census says he was born at Shildon). Father John and agricultural labourer and mother Mary nee Gargett. Thomas was the son of John Richardson and Mary Gargett.

Thomas died 12 March 1925 in Morrisons Buildings, Shincliffe, C. Durham, at 77 years of age. Copy certificate issued 14 February 2007. Described as Retired Coalminer Shifter aged 75 but should be 77. Death registered by Edward David Williams, son-in-law of 11 John Street, Chester-le-Street, Co. Durham.

He was listed as head of household in the 1851 census in Darlington, Co. Durham. HO 107, Piece 2382, Folio 334, Page 17 shows a Thomas Richardson aged 4 born Shildon a visitor. The other occupants are Thomas McAllister and his wife Ann.

He was listed as head of household in the 1861 census in Pity Me, Low Field, Woodham, Stockton. RG09 Piece 3696 Folio 85 Page 15. This entry is probably for our family. John agricultural labourer 44 from Cumberland, Mary 35, Thomas 13 born Shildon which matches 1881 Census & William 6 born Cleatlam.

He was listed as head of household in the 1871 census in Hollin Hill, Stratton, Co. Durham. RG10 Piece 4943, Folio 14 Page 2 shows John Megee aged 84 a farmer of 156 acres, wife Margaret 35, Eleanor Hopwood aged 16 a dairy maid and Thomas Richardson aged 23 a farm servant.

He was listed as head of household in the 1881 census in Eldon Village, Eldon, County Durham. RG11 Piece 4918 Folio 7 Page 8. Thomas is aged 33 a farm labourer born Shildon. Eleanor (spelt Ellinor) 26 born Bishop Auckland. Mary Annie 7 and John Thomas 9 both born Langley Dale, York and father John 64 widower, farm labourer.

He was listed as head of household in the 1891 census in Greenfield, Etherley, West Auckland, Co. Durham. RG12 Piece 4075 Thomas aged 43 a farmer, Ellenor 38, John 19, Mary 17 Thomas's father John a widower 74. I have a flyleaf from a bible on which is writen "Mary Annie Richardson Etherley 18/92" (presumably 1892). Below it written in pencil is "Low green Field farm".

He was listed as head of household in the 1901 census in 471 Whitwell Terrace, Brandon & Byshottles. RG13 Piece 4677 Census shows Thomas aged 53 and his wife Eleanor aged 44. No occupation shown for Thomas

He was listed as head of household in the 1911 UK Census in 471 Whitwell Terrace, Langley Moor, Co. Durham. RG14PN29928 RG78PN1732 RD551 SD1 ED6 SN245 shows Thomas 59 Coal Mine Shifter, Eleanor 55, married 39 years with 2 children both living and Olive Williams granddaughter 12 all born County Durham.

She was listed as head of household in the 1861 census in 26 Bondgate, Bishop Auckland, Co. Durham. RG9 Piece 3705 Folio 36 Page 8. John aged 37, Elizabeth 32, Ellenor 6, John 3 and Thomas 2.
