He married twice. He married Alice Ellen Allen in Chester-le-Street district, Co Durham, March 1901. Free BMD has an entry Ref. Volume 10A Page 731. Carol Hayes informed me that Alice was the groom's cousin, the daughter of his father's brother George.

Alice was born in Maldon, Essex December 1877. Free BMD has an entry Ref. 4A Page 311.

Alice died June 1909 in Chester-le-Street district, Co Durham, at 31 years of age. Year of death from information from Carol Hayes. Free BMD has an entry Ref. Volume 10A Page 311 showing her aged 31

He married Alice Maud Holmes in Chester-le-Street district, Co Durham, June 1910. Free BMD has an entry Ref. Volume 10A Page 872. The entry shows his full name James William W Allen so this is undoubtedly the correct person. Note this is the second marriage.

She was listed as head of household in the 1911 UK Census in High Row, Waldridge, Co. Durham. Alfred 28 a Colliery Banksman born Topperfield (should be Toppesfield), his wife Elizabeth 26 born Sunderland, daughters Mary M 7 born Sunderland, Elizabeth J 5 born Sacriston, son James W W 3 born Sacriston and boarder William Wilde 19 coal miner born Sunderland - he is brother of Elizabeth.

He was listed as head of household in the 1891 census in 13 West Row, Waldridge, Co. Durham. RG12 Piece 4121, Folio 8, Page 10 shows Alfred aged 38 a banksman, Elizabeth 36, Mary 17 dressmaker, Elizabeth 15, Alice 9, James 13 trapper in a coalpit, Clara 6, Alfred 4 and Lily 2.
