22. Mary Elizabeth ( Mary Lizzie)4 French (Mary Ann3 Wilde, William2 Wild(e), William1 Wilde) was born in Plawsworth, Co. Durham 25 July 1879. Details taken from family bible. Mormon's 1881 Census cd says she was 1 year old. Mary died MAR Q 1948 in Durham North district. Free BMD has an entry for a Mary E Haughan as 68 which would be the co rrect age. Ref. Volume 1A Page 449.

She married David Haughan in Chester-le-Street, Co. Durham, 14 August 1909. Copy certificate obtained 11 May 2005. Bridegroom aged 33, bride aged 30. The family bible says they married in August 1910 which is incorrect.

David was born in Chester-le-Street district, Co Durham June 1878. Free BMD has an entry for June quarter 1878. Ref. 10a 585. 1901 Census has one David Haughan aged 12 and one aged 68. 1911 Census says born Vigo. David was the son of William Haughan and Jane Lumley.

David died 21 January 1960 in Chester-le-Street General Hosp, at 81 years of age. Information provided by widow of Brian Haughan who has the certificate. Ancestry.co.uk has an entry for a David Haughan aged 81. Ref. Durham N 1a 444.

He was listed as head of household in the 1881 census in Pelaw Grange, Ouston, Co. Durham. Transcribed as Haugham instead of Haughan Aged 3 and born at Birtley, Co. Durham.

He was listed as head of household in the 1891 census in Durham. He was listed as head of household in the 1911 UK Census in 163 Victoria Place, Chester-le-Street, Co. Durham. David and Mary had 1 child living

She was listed as head of household in the 1881 census in Wellington Row, Edmondsley, Co. Durham. RG11 Piece 4980 Folio 79 Page 39. The family is shown as "Frank" but the original census has been examined and it is "French". Samuel 31 agricultural labourer, Mary Ann 24, Newcomb William 3, Mary Elizabeth 1 and Selina 1 week.

She was listed as head of household in the 1891 census in 18 St Mark's Road North, Sunderland, Co. Durham. RG12 Piece 4128, Folio, 49, Page 19. Samuel aged 41 a coachman domestic servant, Mary 33, Newcombe 13, Mary 11, Selina 10, Harriet 7, Alfred 5, Ada 2 and Ruth 7 months.

She was listed as head of household in the 1901 census in 4 Thornhill Gardens, Sunderland, Co. Durham. RG13 Piece 4716, Folio 76 Page 21 shows a Mary French aged 21 a domestic cook born Plawsworth. She was born at Edmondsley according to the 1881 Census, although her brother Newcombe was born at Plawsworth. Mary is working for William Branfoot a ship and coal owner.
